More than anything, I love the feedback from clients that my knowledge, care and attention helped them create lasting memories. That’s worth a lot to them. What is it worth to you?
Marlain Wietzes, CTC
My name is Marlain Wietzes and I have worked in the travel industry for more than 30 years. I started as a reservations agent for Wardair, and then became a product coordinator for Wardair Holidays. I spent the next 8 years with a Japanese owned travel company called Kintetsu International Express, I started as a reservations agent and ended up as Assistant General Manager. Here I learned all about the Meetings and Incentives part of the travel industry, and found I really enjoyed designing, and operating incentive travel programs for corporate clients, and the logistics of operating large groups of people through various organizations, schools and the JET (Japan Exchange Teachers) program. I worked closely with and learned from our top notch groups team in New York City.
Did I mention travel? oh yes, I was able to travel to some fabulous locales with my groups, a lot of work, but a great education for me. After my company went through a change in corporate focus and management, it was time for me to move onto my next adventure. Over the next several years I spent time as a reservations supervisor with Rider-BTI Travel, Program Manager at Maritz Canada, and a retail job at a local storefront agency. But I was still looking to find the best fit for me.
When my son was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes in 2004, I needed to find a work/life balance that allowed me to be closer to home. So after a lot of consideration I started my own agency in affiliation with Travel Professionals International. It was really slow going for awhile, but it also allowed me to build great relationships with my clients and spend the time designing fabulous travel experiences for them. My business has significantly in the last few years, primarily by client referrals. I love what I do, my focus is to make your travel dreams come true. I still have a lot of places I want to go, how about you?
I had a client who came to me at my previous job to plan a family group trip to celebrate a big birthday. We spent a lot of time planning, and my boss at the time commented a few times that this client seemed to be very time consuming. This lady was a very successful business woman and she was the first person I contacted to let her know that I had started my own business, she loved having her own personal travel agent, and I took care of her business and personal travel and as her business grew, there were also off-site meetings and events. But the main thing that I discovered is that women like to network with other women, and help them succeed in business. Through my first client, I was introduced to other women entrepeneurs and since then have been building my business one client at a time.
