TPI Holds Summer Parties Across Canada

Travel Professionals International held its annual summer parties across Canada during August 2013.

Over 160 guests attended the events in Calgary, AB, Edmonton, AB, Regina, SK, Winnipeg, MB, Toronto, ON, Ottawa, ON, and Halifax, NS, hosted by TPI’s Regional Sales Managers, Trudy McMillan, Rhonda LaFosse, and Lisa Geddes.

As a donated portion of the registrations for the events, advisors and TPI corporately raised $644 for Breakfast Club of Canada – equivalent to providing 644 meals for children in need.

The events were generously co-sponsored by, TPI preferred partners, Transat Holidays and Ama Waterways.

TPI Partners with David’s Bridal

Travel Professionals International has partnered with David’s Bridal, North America’s largest bridal retailer, to offer promotional opportunities for TPI advisors at 7 David’s Bridal locations across Canada, with more locations planned as the program grows.

“David’s Bridal was looking for a national partner that fit the demands of their brides for complementary services that were offered by local experts,” said Tim Morgan, TPI Vice President, “and in TPI advisors they found exactly what they were looking for.”

A formalwear powerhouse, David’s Bridal has over 300 stores where one in four American brides purchases her wedding gown. As David’s Bridal Preferred Service Providers, TPI advisors are granted in-person access to promoting their services to the hundreds of daily visitors to David’s Bridal retail locations. Utilizing a setup similar to that of a trade show booth, TPI advisors use the retailing draw of the formalwear stores to grow their own database with warm leads for generating mainly destination wedding, honeymoon, and bachelor and bachelorette party bookings.

“This partnership with a major chain means an exciting and substantial opportunity for our participating advisors to increase their sales via a warm sales environment,” said Morgan, “and for all TPI advisors it represents a brand building program in terms of public awareness of our organization.”

The locations currently covered by the partnership are: Langley, BC; Calgary, AB; Edmonton, AB; Winnipeg, MB; Cambridge, ON; Scarborough, ON; Ottawa, ON.

TPI Announces Summit Dates

Travel Professionals International announces the dates for its annual TPI Summit events across Canada, 21-29 September 2013.

Taking place in major centres across Canada, the annual TPI Summit meetings are cumulatively the most-attended events in TPI’s annual calendar. Tim Morgan, TPI Vice President, and Penny Martin, TPI Director of Sales, are traveling across the country to deliver industry and TPI-specific updates on new programs and services. In addition, TPI Regional Sales Managers, Trudy McMillian (Western Canada), Rhonda LaFosse (Ontario), and Lisa Geddes (Atlantic Canada), will be hosting best practice group exercises and supplier presentations. Following the daytime events, advisors are able to network with their peers along with supplier representatives during a cocktail and trade show event plus take part in an exclusive reception for TPI’s top producing advisors. In select locations, TPI-exclusive Certified Sandals Specialist (CSS) training is also being offered.

TPI Makes Top 5 at 25th Virtuoso Travel Week

TPI Takes 60 to Las Vegas to Celebrate

Travel Professionals International celebrated the success of its top producing members by taking 60 advisors, advisors’ guests, and TPI staff to the Westin Lake Las Vegas, Nevada, 7-11 August 2013, as part of the company’s annual Velocity trip.

Visiting Las Vegas and surrounding areas for five days, attendees enjoyed leisure, networking, and educational components while celebrating their success alongside their TPI peers, and a delegation of TPI staff, including Morris Chia, President and CEO, Tim Morgan, Vice President, and Penny Martin, Director of Sales, among others.Exclusive to TPI advisors, the Velocity rewards program is designed to encourage advisors to gain industry designations, participate in TPI and preferred partner functions, and build their businesses through increased sales – all the while rewarding them with incentives such as higher commissions and the annual Velocity trip for TPI’s top-producing advisors and their guests.

Focus on Sales Growth at TPI Annual Conference

Travel Professionals International held its 2013 Annual Conference, “Focus”, at the Westin Wall Centre, Vancouver, British Columbia, 16-18 June 2013, featuring five keynote speakers including two highly-regarded sales trainers.

Attending the conference were TPI advisors, staff, and industry partners from across North America who were invited to focus on sharing best practices for achieving the true potential of travel advisor businesses through properly planned and executed sales and social media strategies.

Morris Chia, President & CEO, presented the opening keynote where he and Tim Morgan, Vice President, expanded on TPI’s renewed focus in three core areas: the recruitment, development, and retention of superb and passionate support staff and advisors, the implementation of sales-centric resources and initiatives to help grow advisors’ businesses, and the roll-out of best-in-class technologies developed in-house and with industry-leading technology partners to improve support staff and advisor productivity.

Dave Holt, a Certified Sales Professional with over 22 years of experience in sales training and development, took attendees through two fast-paced and entertaining keynote sessions that enlightened and engaged the audience on the “Changing Role of a Sales Professional”, highlighting the fact that “sales is a life skill” that all travel advisors should continually hone.

Aligning with an increasingly in-demand topic, Sophie Bujold, popular social media strategist, led the attendees through three keynote sessions on social media best practices related to building relationships as opposed to direct selling through Facebook, Pinterest, and blogging.

As part of ongoing efforts to assist advisors in increasing their high-margin travel product sales, Becky Powell, Virtuoso Senior Vice President of Global Member Sales, delivered a keynote session on the value of a travel advisor and the importance of relationships to the selling process.

“We couldn’t have been more pleased with our speakers,” exclaimed Morgan. “All were on-message with timely and, most importantly, practical step-by-step guidance for our travel advisors on how to maximize their sales efforts.”

In addition to the learning and networking components, each year TPI selects a Canadian charity for the Giving Back portion of its annual conference. Breakfast Club of Canada received donations from hundreds of TPI advisors, staff, and industry partners in support of their programs which provide meals for children. Through donors’ generosity, $5,000 was raised, with TPI matching donations dollar for dollar. A cheque for $10,000 (the equivalent of 10,000 meals) was presented to Breakfast Club of Canada by Chia.

Capping off the conference and celebrating another successful year at TPI, the Gala Awards Night recognized top travel advisors for their contributions in various travel product categories.

Plans are well underway for the 2014 TPI Annual Conference which will celebrate the organization’s 20th anniversary.

TPI Welcomes McMillan as Western Canada Regional Sales Manager

Travel Professionals International announces the appointment of Trudy McMillan as Western Canada Regional Sales Manager, effective immediately.

McMillan comes to TPI with over 25 years of experience in the Canadian travel industry, including as Regional Sales Manager in BC and the Prairies for Sears Travel and most recently as Area Sales Manager in Southern Alberta for Sears Travel where she developed and implemented local growth strategies for retail locations. In her role with TPI, McMillan will work closely with TPI’s Director of Sales, Penny Martin, and TPI’s Regional Sales Managers for Ontario and Atlantic Canada, Rhonda LaFosse and Lisa Geddes, respectively, in delivering sales and training initiatives to assist advisors in meeting their business goals.

“I am honored that TPI has given me this opportunity to work with this strong and passionate organization,” said McMillan. “I feel very fortunate and my focus will be to support TPI advisors so together we can develop and grow the business.”

TPI Welcomes LaFosse as Ontario Regional Sales Manager

Travel Professionals International announces the appointment of Rhonda LaFosse as Ontario Regional Sales Manager, effective immediately.

LaFosse joins TPI with over 24 years of experience in the Canadian travel industry, most recently holding the position of National Director of Field Sales for Sears Travel, where she developed and implemented local growth strategies for retail locations across the country including training field personnel. In her role with TPI, LaFosse will work closely with TPI’s Director of Sales, Penny Martin, and TPI’s other Regional Sales Managers, in delivering sales and training initiatives to assist advisors in meeting their business goals.

TPI Appoints Martin as Director of Sales

Travel Professionals International announces the appointment of Penny Martin as Director of Sales.
